Youth Indoor Track and Field

Indoor registration opening any day! Join our notification list to stay in the loop!

Program Overview:

Minnesota Flyers Track & Field hosts two competitive seasons of track and field each year: the Indoor season below, and an Outdoor Season May-July. We also offer spring and fall non-competitive training sessions for athletes interested in continuing their fitness and skills. The Flyers coaching staff provides appropriate age and skill-based training for youth of all ages, and as an ODP/PDP, also offers comprehensive training for elite athletes.

Our indoor season provides the opportunity for athletes to continue refining the technique, mechanics, and fundamentals needed for all track and field events and/or gain fitness for other sports. Indoor track is also a fun and beneficial way to learn the value of off-season training while complementing your other winter activities. It has become a favorite of athletes preparing for spring sports and registration always fills early!

All of our coaches and staff members are unpaid volunteers. They continuously choose to be here because they want to support the youth track & field community, and make this sport possible for everyone. What you invest in us is directly invested back into your/your child's track & field experience with the Minnesota Flyers!

Program update!

Here's the plan

In our program, every design is built around your athlete's long-term growth and their potential in the spring and summer seasons. That's why our indoor season is dedicated to base training and building, instead of focusing on quick results that look good on the track but lead to mid-spring burnout, injuries, and missed college opportunities. Our approach works. In order to best accomplish this, we revisioned our indoor season.

Why This works

We've restructured indoor training into smaller groups focused on speed, strength, and endurance, building skills that improve performance in every event area. Small groups mean: -> More one-on-one coaching time for every athlete -> More efficient, productive workouts ->A smarter, more progressive season that has your athlete peaking when it matters most After training with us this indoor season, your athlete is going to shine this spring! Choose the session that fits your schedule and sign up today!

Results

Our history of combining direct and specialized coaching with proper strength training has produced hundreds of elite athletes. In the last decade, the Flyers have produced: -> 550+ state qualifiers, place winners, and champions -> 700+ collegiate athletes, pros, and Olympians Maintaining that close coach-to-athlete instructional time ensures that your athlete is receiving equal opportunity to reach their goals and continue their progress into the spring season!

Program highlight!

What is it?

Proper strength training is the foundation of athletic development, and for years our athletes have training with it through separate registration. In fact, ours has been so successful that other coaches have asked what our magic recipe is! The science behind our training is so specialized and backed by over a decade of proven results that you don't have to look elsewhere.

The built-in advantage

We're bringing performance strength training back into our indoor training package! Every high school training package includes a performance strength plan at no extra cost. The plan is automatically included with registration, and athletes can choose when and where they train, with either virtual oversight or in-person sessions arranged with our coaches.

strength training benefits

Lifting may look simple, but training for long-term athleticism and durability takes specialized direction. Our plan delivers that! Completing weekly weight room workouts will: -> Significantly reduce injury risk -> Increase athletic capacity -> Maximize performance results if followed properly -> Build muscular endurance and overall athleticism for all sports and events

Quick FAQ's

-> Comprehensive season details and team site access are provided to registered members. -> Practice schedule excludes holidays, severe weather cancellations, and unexpected facility closures. -> Meet Entry Fees are typically $15-$20. Meets are optional and not included in our program registration during indoor season as many households have weekend activities that conflict with meet days. Elite meets are available - complete information provided on our team site. -> Attendance questions? Practices are not mandatory, but attending as many as possible is encouraged since this is such a progressive sport. There is an attendance expectation for relay members. The same applies to meet attendance. -> Looking for team-specific information? To protect the privacy and safety of our youth athletes, complete details regarding our season are accessible to registered members on the team app or team site. -> Parent orientation is now conducted via presentation with follow-up question/answer sessions in early May and early June. Attendance by one parent/guardian is mandatory as there is much information to cover regarding the outdoor season. (Orientation materials include privacy-protected information so are only available to registered members.) -> Existing USATF membership that you need to affiliate with our program? Please Log in to your USATF profile and request an affiliation change in your profile details. We can no longer process affiliation changes at the club level so make sure to submit your request in a timely manner as it must go through an approval process that can take anywhere from a couple of days to weeks (which can also affect meet eligibility).
