2020 New Balance Outdoor Nationals Opportunity

(For varsity-eligible athletes grades 7-12)

New date and location: July 30-August 2, Sioux Falls, SD

Greetings Athletes and Families!

New Balance Outdoor Nationals is going to be a unique and once in a lifetime experience this year!  The NBNO/NSAF committee has made numerous adaptations in order to offer athletes as much opportunity as possible given the lack of competition this outdoor season.  Of note:

  • Additional relays have been added at the Emerging Elite and Championship levels

  • Entry standards have been slightly relaxed and 2019 performances are allowed

  • JUNIOR HIGH and FRESHMAN EVENTS HAVE NO MINIMUM STANDARD (event must have been contested in the last year)

We're normally able to present traveling meets like this in person to help provide clarity and answer questions.  Since that’s not the case this year, we’d like to direct you to the New Balance Outdoor Nationals website for complete information.

Entry Standards/Process

If you are interested, please carefully review these Entry Standards as we can only submit performances that meet the qualifications (junior high and freshman do not have an entry standard).  However performances that don’t meet the current standards can be re-evaluated if standards change throughout the submission process.  Note the fee is $55/event and is non-refundable should you decide not to participate.  Also note that backpacks will only be given to athletes who show up in person with their bib and compete - they cannot be mailed or sent with a teammate, coach, or parent.

Currently 16 athletes have been accepted across 47 events!  There are so many humbling things to say about these numbers, but we’ll save them for our post-season announcements :)  I’m happy to submit additional athletes and events so please let me know of your interest by emailing coach@minnesotaflyers.com with the following:

  1. Events in which you’d like to submit (per these Entry Standards)

  2. Payment for the entries by clicking the payment button here or below

  3. Your current grade in school

  4. Your answers to the athlete bio (pictured below - these are entered into the annual meet program)

Travel Details and Final Thoughts

Team travel plans for Sioux Falls are in the final stages and will be provided to all entrants asap.  Please keep an eye here for updates as well.

These past months give poignancy to the words “you’ll have the chance again” and add backbone to the concept of taking advantage of opportunities as they come because you never know what will happen.  Track and field opportunities are measured in inches and seconds, not halves or playing time, causing us to repeatedly evaluate if that one event or that one meet is worth the time, expense, effort, etc.  This year, especially for our seniors, we learn that that one event or that one meet is worth it and can make ALL the difference.  For this reason and more, we're thankful you’ve been given this opportunity and hope you will consider giving NBNO a try.

See You at the Track!

*NBNO payment can also be sent via check payable to:
